Titanic Era Wedding Gown SOLD
Fabric: Sumptuous ivory silk satin, heavily accented and trimmed with silk embroidered lace and embroidered tulle at the center neck and back of the neck areas. The bodice is lined in ivory tissue silk. The snaps that close the gown may have been replaced but other than that everything is original.
The color is a true Ivory and does NOT have yellow undertones ( some appear in the digital pictures ).
Condition: Excellent condition with the exception of surface dirt to the hem, one age related spot on the underside of the train and a faint smudge on the front skirt area. The gown, which dates to approximately 1912 is in remarkable condition, not only for it's age but for any age ! This magnificent gown closes with hidden snaps and hooks.
Measurements: This gown is SUPER tiny. The just only measures up to 31", the waist measures 22", the hips are full and gently bell out towards the hem/train of the gown. The gown measures 54" from shoulder to hem and approximately 77" if you include the length of the train. It may be possible to add similar fabric to the bust area to make it wearable for someone larger, as is I would say that the gown will fit a modern size 0 to maybe a slender size 2. It Barely fits on my size 4 mannequin.
What can I say: Elegance and sophistication abound in this striking vintage wedding gown. The raised waist, large fabric covered buttons that adorn the side of the skirt and the abundance of silk embroidered work on the bodice and sleeves are nothing short of Magnificent. The skirt portion of the gown is streamlined and gradually widens down to the train. This portion of the gown has an over-skirt that is free flowing and closes on one side with hidden snaps. The larger fabric covered buttons are merely decorative. When I purchased this gown there was slight damage to the underarm area. This has since been professionally repaired and even the repair is un-detectable.
