20's Velvet & Sequined Dress
Fabric: Hundreds of tiny jet black sequins and bugle beads adorn the front and back of this classic flapper gown. Two side, draped panels of cotton velvet. The sequins and beading are done on a fine tulle net fabric. No lining. Condition: MINT condition. Measurements: Medium/Large. Bust 36"/Waist 36"/ Hips 46"/ Total length from shoulder to longest point of hem 54".
What can I say: Still searching for the perfect black evening dress? This may be just what the fashion doctor ordered! A classic, heavily beaded flapper gown done in black on black. The shimmer of the black sequins and tiny bugle beads is perfectly balanced and offset by the rich velvet panels that hang down lower on each side of the piece. I have shown this garment over a pale slip so that you might have a better view of the pattern of the sequins and bead work. I have studied this dress and still can't figure out is there's minor sequin loss or if the absence of sequins in certain areas of the front and back is/was intentional. Either way, I love the piece as it is, the few areas that do not have sequins allow for your undergarment to peek through, adding yet another dimension to the piece. To add a bit of dramatic flair, wear a rich red or blue slip under the dress...to make the dress a little more understated pair it with a jet black undergarment. The possibilities are endless. The dress has no labels and may have been home sewn. The edges of the velvet panels are unfinished and there are extra beads ( that can be used to add or replace existing ones) on the inside waist area. No closures of any kind, just slip the dress over your head. Classic and timeless and in remarkable condition ! The slip shown is NOT included with the purchase of the dress.
