For those of you familiar
with the name Stephen Burrows the magic and allure of THIS vintage Burrows halter dress are almost
indescribable. If you're unfamiliar with this particular designer read on and be ready to fall
in love! As a side note, I was lucky enough to have met Mr. Burrows while wearing this dress and the
thrill of that day will always be one of the top 10 moments in my Fashionista life! Upon entering
the room and seeing me in his dress he took a step backward and marveled at his own genius. He
informed me that he created this Goddess gown in 1977 and the look on his face showed a mixture of
renewed pride and unmistakable reverence. For me it was like having an audience with the Pope or
some big Hollywood director...only better! O.K. now about the dress...The fabric is a semi sheer
navy matte silk jersey with Burrows signature red zigzag stitching at the halter (back and front)
area. Strategically placed seams appear throughout the dress giving it a streamlined fluidity and
soft sculptured look and feel. Unlined and in MINT condition. This magnificent vintage piece also
comes with it's original Stephen Burrows label. Shown on a size 4 mannequin. The slight
'give/stretchy-ness' of the fabric will allow it to fit a slightly larger frame. Exact measurements
are almost impossible but keep in mind that this dress is NOT for the timid or faint of heart. You
simply can not hide ANYTHING when you wear this piece. The fabric skims your every curve and the
skirt portion has a bias-like look and feel to it. If you're daring enough to wear it without a slip
(as it was meant to be worn) remember that a dimly lit room is the best backdrop. If you're a bit
more shy, wear a half slip or body stocking because the fabric is a bit sheer. It looks like someone
shortened the hem of the dress (evidence of hand stitching there) but nonetheless what remains is
pure vintage perfection! Stephen Burrows is one of the MOST highly sought after and collectable
names in today's vintage market. The designer has recently re-launched his exclusive line making his
vintage pieces even more valuable. This dress in particular is a perfect example of what put him on
the fashion map back in the 70's...and what's kept him there so many years later!
Approximate Measurements: Best for someone who measures 34" at the
bust, 25" in through the waist and 35"-36" in through the hips. The total length also varies a bit
because the halter neck ties in back. I'd say the best approximate total length measurement is
roughly 67" in front and slightly longer in back.
